| About Learning Works |
|
What is Learning Works?
Learning Works is Vermont's adult education and literacy system. There
are 10 Learning Works Centers, providing adult education and literacy
services around the state.
With consistent curricula and student transcripts across the 10 Centers, a
learner who moves from Burlington to Brattleboro enjoys a seamless transition
from one Center to another. By providing easier access to the system, Learning
Works removes some of the barriers to participation and helps more people
succeed.
Learners are expected to study for at least four hours per week for at least
two months, most often in a group or class environment.

What do Learning Works services cost?
The Centers provide free literacy services and job training to people over 16
who are not otherwise enrolled in school. Most services are free. Centers
may charge fees to serve young learners and people who are enrolled in school
or to deliver services at the worksite.
The Department of Education expects that as many as one-third of all adult
learners served by Learning Works will transition to post-secondary
education and training. At least one-half of learners are expected to develop
literacy skills, including computer skills, which help them obtain, retain
or improve employment.
